The first Christians were Jewish both by birth and by upbringing, so they had no doubts or hesitations in accepting the Old Testament as the revelation of God to Israel, whose elect they considered themselves to be. They interpreted the Old Testament according to methods usual in Judaism of the period, in order to adapt it to their own needs.
